Charito Romano BEM CDM RN’s story begins in Cabanatuan City, Philippines, where her early experiences shaped a deep sense of compassion and service. In 2002, she arrived in the UK as an internationally educated nurse, carrying with her a dream to care for others and build a better future for her family. What began as a personal journey soon became a lifelong mission of leadership, advocacy, and malasakit.

 

Through dedication and perseverance, she grew from frontline nursing into senior leadership roles across the UK care sector. Today, she serves as Clinical Lead and Deputy Manager in a Bupa care home rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), where she leads with empathy, integrity, and a strong commitment to person-centred care and team development.

 

Her journey of service was nationally recognised in 2021 with the British Empire Medal (BEM) for her contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, she was honoured to attend the Coronation of King Charles III. Her impact further reached international recognition when she was invited to be one of the global tribute nurse during Konsiyerto sa Palasyo in 2024. She was later awarded Britanya Ngayon Global Impact Awardee in 2025 and Eminent Woman of Impact Awardee by BCP in March 2026.

 

Beyond her clinical work, Charito serves as Trustee of Filipinos in Care and Executive Board Member of Women’s Voice, championing inclusion, visibility, and leadership for Filipino and diverse healthcare professionals. She participated the first Filipino delegation in the London New Year’s Day Parade 2025 and represented Women’s Voice in the Lady Mayor’s Show (London Parade) in 2025.

 

Supported by her husband Ronnie and their children Jericho, Andrew, and Margarethe also a nurse and Miss World Philippines 2026 Top 10 finalist, Charito’s journey continues to inspire.

 

At the heart of it all, she remains guided by malasakit: to serve, uplift, and create a legacy of compassion.
