1. Statement of Commitment

Filipinos in Care is committed to promoting a culture of equity, dignity, respect, and opportunity for all. We believe that diversity is a strength, and inclusion is essential to fulfilling our charitable purpose of supporting ethnically diverse professionals in health and social care.

We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or exclusion in any form. We actively work to remove barriers and build equitable structures within our organisation and the wider sector.

2. Legal Framework

This policy aligns with the Equality Act 2010, which protects people from discrimination on the basis of:

  • Age

  • Disability

  • Gender reassignment

  • Marriage or civil partnership

  • Pregnancy or maternity

  • Race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin)

  • Religion or belief

  • Sex

  • Sexual orientation

We also uphold our duties under the Charity Governance Code, which expects charities to embed EDI across governance, service design, and leadership.

3. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Staff (including contractors and freelancers)

  • Trustees and volunteers

  • Programme participants and applicants

  • Partner organisations and service users

  • Anyone engaging with Filipinos in Care's services, events, or digital spaces

4. Our Objectives

We aim to:

  • Create safe, inclusive, and respectful spaces where everyone can thrive

  • Design and deliver programmes that reflect the needs of diverse communities

  • Encourage ethnically diverse leadership in health and social care

  • Make reasonable adjustments for individuals with disabilities

  • Collect and monitor EDI data to drive improvement

  • Use inclusive language and imagery in all communications

  • Embed EDI into recruitment, governance, and training

5. Recruitment and Opportunities

We recruit and select staff, trustees, and programme participants on the basis of merit, potential, and alignment with our mission. We are especially committed to encouraging applications from people who are:

  • From underrepresented ethnic backgrounds

  • Living with disabilities

  • From LGBTQ+ communities

  • Experiencing socio-economic disadvantage

We offer reasonable adjustments at every stage of application and participation.

6. Leadership and Accountability

EDI is not a side project — it’s embedded in everything we do.

  • Our Trustees have strategic responsibility for ensuring that this policy is implemented and upheld

  • Our Leadership Team is responsible for modelling inclusive behaviours and removing systemic barriers

  • All staff and volunteers are expected to champion inclusion in their work and decision-making

We review this policy annually and provide training as needed to keep our team aware and accountable.

7. Breaches of Policy

Any breaches of this policy — including acts of discrimination, bullying, harassment, or victimisation — will be taken seriously and may result in disciplinary action or exclusion from participation. Complaints may be escalated to the Board of Trustees or, where appropriate, reported to regulators or funders.

8. Feedback and Continuous Improvement

We welcome feedback on our EDI practices. If you have suggestions or concerns, please get in touch:
