London, United Kingdom — A nurse led falls reduction initiative has been named the Winner of the Nursing in Social Care category at the Nursing Times Awards 2025, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The initiative, led by Jay Trondillo, was recognised for its measurable impact in reducing avoidable falls and improving governance across care homes.
Trondillo, who also serves as Senior Regional Director at Maria Mallaband Care Group, led a pioneering project at Kingsbury Court Care Home in partnership with Stephanie Marks and Ally Cares – AI Resident Monitoring for Care Homes. The initiative introduced AI-enabled acoustic monitoring, resulting in a 65% reduction in falls and significantly improved resident safety, wellbeing, and staff confidence.
Judges’ comments:
“Congratulations to Maria Mallaband Care Group for their pioneering work at Kingsbury Court with the implementation of Ally Acoustic Monitoring. Passionately delivered by a social care nurse manager who clearly demonstrates outstanding leadership, this innovative use of artificial intelligence has delivered a 65% reduction in falls and improved outcomes for both residents and staff. Judges said this was an exciting, well-implemented initiative with measurable and transferable impact. They praised it as a model of how nurse leadership can successfully embed AI digital solutions in care settings with positive outcomes.”
Reacting to the award, Trondillo said:
“I’m humbled and honoured that our project won Nursing in Social Care at last night’s Nursing Times Awards. This celebrates our work piloting practical technologies that are helping improve the quality of life for our residents. I share this with every nurse and care worker in social care who turned an idea into safer days.”
Trondillo’s work showcases how nurse-led innovation can transform care environments by prioritising human outcomes first, using technology to enhance, not replace, compassionate care. His leadership reflects the growing movement to position nurses at the forefront of digital transformation in social care.
Beyond this achievement, Trondillo continues to champion leadership development as Programme Lead of Project CHARM (Care Home Aspiring Registered Managers), a free CPD-accredited, Chartered Management Institute-recognised programme designed to empower the next generation of care home leaders.
The Nursing Times Awards, the UK’s most prestigious recognition of nursing excellence, celebrate innovations that improve patient outcomes, drive cultural change, and advance the profession’s impact on health and social care.
