Project CHARM (Care Home Aspiring Registered Managers), the pioneering leadership development programme for future care home leaders by Filipinos in Care, has officially kicked off its first module—“The Role of the Registered Manager and Statutory Responsibilities”—to overwhelming praise from its inaugural cohort.
With 100% of participants rating the session a full 5 out of 5, the launch module didn’t just meet expectations—it set the standard.
“It was delivered with high quality, accessible, informative and very interactive,” said one participant. “Everything exceeded expectations.”
The module focused on equipping aspiring leaders with an in-depth understanding of the legal and professional responsibilities tied to the role of a Registered Manager under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and CQC’s regulatory framework.
From interactive quizzes and case studies to peer-led discussions and reflections, the day was packed with activities that brought the regulations to life. All ten attendees reported that the content was “highly relevant” to their future role as a care home manager, with 100% agreeing that the activities helped apply theory to real-world care settings.
“I will live the regulations in my daily task and share them with my team—to go above and beyond what’s expected,” one learner reflected. “Happy residents, happy staff, happy home.”
Participants gained a newfound appreciation for accountability, leadership, and regulation—not just as checkboxes, but as tools for transformation.
“A better understanding of my accountability and of CQC regulatory standards—that’s my biggest takeaway,” shared another.
“Being a manager is more than delegating,” a third added. “You have to lead by example, be a team player, and work hand-in-hand with your staff towards an Outstanding CQC rating.”
Jay Trondillo, Co-founder of Filipinos in Care and Programme Lead for Project CHARM, said:
“We designed this programme to be more than a training day. It’s a catalyst for change in social care leadership. Module 1 gave participants the foundations to lead with both heart and regulatory rigour—and they’ve risen to the challenge.”
The session also earned full marks for engagement and facilitation, with learners applauding the pace, clarity, and structure of the day.
“The training was interactive, easy to follow. The lecturer was knowledgeable, prepared, and superb in their delivery,” one participant said. “Quizzes made it more fun and not boring.”
“Coming from a workplace where CQC is rarely discussed, Project CHARM made everything click,” another noted. “It helped me understand the role of a Registered Manager in a way no other training has.”
Participants also appreciated the tailored approach and safe learning environment, with one learner commenting:
“The facilitator adjusted the content to our backgrounds in care homes. That’s rare in leadership programmes.”
When asked what could be improved, learners were nearly unanimous: “Nothing. Don’t change a thing.”
As the cohort now prepares for Module 2—focusing on Operational Leadership and Performance Management—participants are already engaging in the pre-module discussion boards and exploring uploaded materials via Canvas.
Trondillo added:
“We’re building a movement of reflective, accountable, and culturally competent leaders. Module 1 showed us that when we start with strong foundations, the next generation of care home managers won’t just aim for compliance—they’ll lead for impact.”
