Paul John Alegado, PhD, MA, PGCLTHE, BSc, RN, FHEA

Dr. Paul John Alegado is an award-winning nurse educator, academic and author with a distinguished international career spanning the Philippines, China and the United Kingdom. He currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at the University of Worcester, where he is committed to advancing nursing education through innovative teaching, research and mentorship.

Dr. Alegado holds a PhD in International and Comparative Education, which underpins his strong interest in global health workforce development, migration and equity in education. His contributions to the nursing profession have been widely recognised, including being named Overseas Nurse of the Year at the Nursing Times Awards (2023) and receiving the Silver Award for Nurse Educator of the Year from the British Journal of Nursing (2025), among numerous other accolades. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a former Florence Nightingale Foundation and NHS England INMA Fellow.

In addition to his academic role, he is an active leader within the professional community. He serves as General Secretary of the Filipino Nurses Association UK (2024-2026) and Regional Director for the West Midlands (2024 – present), where he advocates for the welfare, professional development and representation of Filipino nurses across the UK. He is also involved in trade union work, serving in the Migrant Members Standing Committee (2024-2026). 

A published author, he wrote Uprooted Life: A Self-Reflective Guide to Thriving as a Migrant Professional, a book that draws on his personal and professional experiences to support internationally educated professionals navigating new environments. His academic work spans nursing, education and migration, with his publications cited over a hundred times in scholarly journals.

Outside of being a passionate writer and educator, he also enjoys cooking, travelling and all-inclusive holidays, where he finds space to reflect and generate new creative ideas.
