Filipinos in Care CIC Responds to Immigration Reform Proposals: “We Are Listening, Watching, and Engaging”

London, 25 May 2025 – In response to the recently published white paper Restoring Control Over the Immigration System, which outlines the Labour government’s proposed tightening of UK immigration policy, Filipinos in Care CIC acknowledges the concern this has generated across the health and social care workforce and within the Filipino community.

The proposed reforms—currently under consultation—include a significant shift in immigration policy, including a potential ban on the recruitment of overseas care workers. These announcements have led to public debate, media coverage, and a wide range of views from across the sector and migrant communities.

“As an organisation, we are taking a neutral position while we await further clarity and detail from the government on how these proposals will be implemented,” said Jay Trondillo, Co-Founder of Filipinos in Care CIC. “We understand the concerns raised by many of our members and peers, and we are actively listening, gathering feedback, and assessing the potential impact on our workforce and community.”

Filipinos in Care CIC recognises that immigration policy is complex and often evolves in response to broader political and economic pressures. While the white paper signals a shift in tone, it remains a proposal subject to further consultation, sector response, and public scrutiny.

“In past years, we’ve seen similar proposals revised or reversed following consultation with stakeholders,” Trondillo added. “We are committed to staying engaged, seeking dialogue with policymakers, and ensuring the voice of Filipino care professionals is included in these conversations.”

During a recent public briefing hosted by Tinig UK, which drew thousands of viewers, community members raised concerns about future job security, visa status, and sector sustainability. Filipinos in Care CIC thanks those who participated and reaffirms its commitment to representing the interests of Filipino care workers while maintaining a constructive, solutions-focused approach.

As the situation develops, Filipinos in Care CIC will:

  • Continue to monitor government communications and policy updates;

  • Facilitate forums for members to voice their views and concerns;

  • Engage with stakeholders in care, immigration, and workforce development;

  • Share accurate and timely information through official channels.

“This is not the time for panic—but for preparation, awareness, and unified professionalism,” said Trondillo. “We stand ready to support our community, regardless of how the final policies are shaped.”
