LONDON, UK – 28 June 2025. Filipinos in Care, a pioneering organisation supporting ethnically diverse staff in the UK health and social care sector, has formally submitted its application to the Charity Commission to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This milestone marks a new chapter in its mission to promote inclusion, leadership, and professional development across the care workforce.
Initially launched as a Community Interest Company (CIC), Filipinos in Care has evolved into a national platform offering training, mentoring, and recognition for care staff—particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. Transitioning to charitable status will allow the organisation to strengthen its public benefit work, access new sources of funding, and extend its reach to more frontline care workers.
“This move isn’t just administrative—it’s strategic,” said Jay Trondillo, Director of Filipinos in Care. “Becoming a charity gives us the structure, credibility, and reach to help more people, challenge systemic barriers, and champion culturally competent leadership in care.”
The new CIO will take over delivery of key initiatives, including:
Project CHARM, a flagship CPD-accredited leadership programme for aspiring registered managers,is aligned with CQC and Skills for Care standards.
Mentoring and support services for overseas and ethnically diverse care workers navigating the UK system.
The Filipinos in Care Awards, which celebrate inclusive leadership, service excellence, and contributions of underrepresented groups within care.
The CIO’s objects focus on advancing education, promoting equality, and improving wellbeing across the health and social care workforce. Activities will be governed by a board of independent trustees, and all income will be reinvested to support the charity’s public mission.
Trondillo continued:
“The CIC laid the foundation. But the CIO allows us to build something enduring—something that reflects the professionalism, resilience, and talent of the diverse workforce we serve.”
The CIC will formally close once the charity registration is approved, with a clear handover and no operational overlap. The organisation’s governance, branding, and activities will fully transition under the CIO, ensuring clarity, compliance, and continuity.
